MP appeals for relief food in schools

By Jeff Mwangi

Igembe North MP Maoka Maore has appealed to both national and Meru county governments to assist residents in the constituency with relief food especially in schools.

Speaking at Itang’a area where he donated relief food to primary schools, Maore said it was unfortunate that most of the people think that the whole of Meru is food sufficient not knowing that some areas are dry.

He said that most affected people are the learners and appealed for urgent interventions.

He said schools in the affected areas are not under school feeding programme affecting education as most learners miss classes.

The MP also called on Meru County Government to provide residents with clean and safe water.

“We are living with one meal per day and sometimes we sleep hungry forcing our children not to go to school,” said Jane Gakii, a parent.
