Allow students to choose their courses, parents told

By Erick Nyayiera

Parents and guardians have been advised against choosing courses and making applications on behalf of their children who wish to pursue medical courses at the Kenya Medical Training Colleges.
Gertrude Opiyo, the Principal of Bondo Kenya Medical Training College said that students who undertake courses of their parents’ choices often drop midway or get disinterested in the career after completing their studies.
Speaking during Bondo KMTC Open Day at Bondo town, Opiyo explained that such students fail to deliver quality services when given opportunity to serve patients at health facilities.
“These are students who when assigned duties will totally refuse saying they did not know what the course entails since it was their parents choice, some fear touching blood and interestingly most of them have little or no interest in helping sick people once they get employment” said Opiyo.
