The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has handed over a training centre valued at Sh2.5 million to St. Francis children’s home for the disabled in Kangundo Sub-county.
Speaking during the ceremony, chairperson Board of Trustee, Kristina Kenyatta said the main purpose was to make a difference in empowering persons with disabilities across the country and equip them with social, economic and technological skills to meet the current industrial needs.
‘’Our aim is to reach out to more persons with disabilities across the 47 counties and institutions which assist them while, at the same time, ensuring they gain basic knowledge about their rights whether in school or at home and also advocacy of appropriate policies”, she said.
Mrs. Kenyatta also called on the county governments to allocate funds in their annual budget towards improving infrastructures in schools, homes and rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities in their counties.
She was accompanied by the fund’s CEO Joyce Mutua and trustee Prof Julia Ojiambo.
