Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has stepped up efforts to raise the quality and global competitiveness of its engineering programmes through a two-day capacity-building training on Washington Accord readiness.
The training, facilitated by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), brought together university top management, lecturers and faculty members from the School of Engineering and Built Environment.
The programme was aimed at equipping participants with a deeper understanding of Washington Accord requirements, EBK accreditation standards and Outcome-Based Education (OBE), as the university works towards strengthening its engineering programmes. The training also provided participants with practical knowledge on curriculum design, implementation, assessment and continuous improvement, key areas in meeting internationally recognised engineering education standards.

Speaking during the event, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Hussein Golicha, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to improving the quality and relevance of its engineering programmes. He said aligning the programmes with Washington Accord requirements and OBE principles would help enhance their quality while increasing their international recognition.
The training, organised by the Dean of the School of Engineering and Built Environment, was expected to give staff a common understanding of accreditation requirements and practical approaches to improving engineering education at the university.
The initiative comes as MMUST strengthens its accreditation agenda and seeks to ensure its engineering graduates are equipped with skills that meet both local and international standards.
