- CS Kipchumba Murkomen has highlighted the role of TVETs in strengthening national security from the grassroots level.
- The programme aims to institutionalise conflict resolution in tertiary institutions through early warning tools, peer-led mediation training and closer collaboration with NGAOs.
Rift Valley National Polytechnic has been named the Outstanding Model Institution in the Best TVET Category for the 2026 Jukwaa La Wasomi Mediation and Preventive Security Programme, in recognition of the intersection between education, mediation and security on its campus.
The award was presented by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen, and serves as national validation of the institution’s commitment to creating a secure, peaceful and constructive learning environment.
In honouring Rift Valley National Polytechnic as an Outstanding Model Institution, CS Murkomen highlighted the role TVETs play in strengthening national security from the ground up. The recognition complements the ministry’s broader agenda of establishing campus mediation hubs and training student leaders and administrators in Certified Professional Mediation (CPM).

The Jukwaa La Wasomi Mediation and Preventive Security Programme aims to institutionalise conflict resolution across tertiary institutions nationwide.
Its framework equips students and staff with early warning tools to detect and de-escalate tensions before they spiral into conflict. It also trains campus leaders in peer-led mediation, preparing them to resolve administrative, student and community-level disputes. A third strand of the programme links academic institutions with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to support broader peace and stability efforts, an approach the ministry describes as civic security alignment.
