Bomet County Government has commended its disaster response divers and residents for their efforts in retrieving the body of a Form Three student of Riokindo Boys High School who drowned at Nyakwana Falls in Kisii County.
The student is reported to have drowned while swimming in River Nyakwana after he and other students were reportedly sent home over school fee arrears.
The recovery mission involved Bomet County disaster divers working alongside residents in a search operation that led to the retrieval of the student’s body. The county government praised the divers for their dedication and bravery in responding to the incident and assisting the bereaved family during the difficult period.

“We commend the efforts of our Department of Disaster Divers for the body rescue and search operation at Nyakwana Falls, Kisii County. They managed to retrieve the body of a student of Riokindo Boys High School,” the county said.
The county also cautioned young people and members of the public against swimming or engaging in other activities at the waterfall, warning of the dangers posed by the site. The incident has highlighted the need for greater caution around rivers, waterfalls and other water bodies, particularly among young people.

Bomet County Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased student, as well as his friends, classmates and the entire Riokindo Boys High School fraternity, and urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid potentially dangerous water sites to prevent similar tragedies.
