Tharaka University TVET Mukothima Branch has enrolled 260 pioneer students, marking a promising start to its academic journey just a day after admissions officially kicked off.
Education stakeholders, including parents, students, investors, politicians and residents, have lauded the management of the newly established institution for the milestone, after a delegation toured and inspected the facility to assess the community’s attitude toward the new centre. The pioneer students applauded the institution’s leadership for the welcome gesture, while parents expressed optimism that the TVET will give young people the opportunity to acquire technical and practical skills locally before entering the job market in Kenya and abroad. Landlords and residents said the initiative will economically transform the region, with the expected financial boost seen as a way to uplift living standards in Mukothima.

Mukothima Centre Director Dr. Faustin Muchui said more than 260 students have already registered and joined the centre, urging residents to enrol more students at the newly established institution regardless of their grades. “TVET education offers different pathways for young people to gain practical and marketable skills. I urge the residents to take advantage of the pioneer centre and enrol more students at the newly established institution regardless of their grades. Mukothima Centre of Tharaka University officially started enrolling the pioneer learners yesterday, with a record 200 already registered at the facility,” said the Director.
Tharaka University Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter K. Muriungi is credited with the establishment of the centre, which gives priority to bringing higher education closer to the people, with the strong student turnout demonstrating demand for higher education in the remote area. “Students can enrol in Certificate and Diploma programmes across various fields, including Business, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Natural Resources, as well as Humanities and Social Sciences,” he said.

The admission exercise is ongoing under the stewardship of Dr. Muchui and CPA Elijah Karoncho, with more students continuing to arrive to secure opportunities for further studies.
