A 43-year-old trained P1 teacher from Baringo South is appealing to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and local leaders to help her secure employment after waiting nearly nine years since completing her teacher training.
Benardine Kiplagat, a resident of Koitilion Sub-Location in Baringo South Constituency, says she graduated from Machakos Teachers College in 2017 but has never been absorbed into the teaching service despite meeting the required qualifications.
Speaking while making her appeal, Benardine said the prolonged wait has left her struggling to support her family, with financial hardships continuing to mount over the years.
She has called on the TSC to consider her for recruitment in upcoming teacher employment exercises, saying she remains committed to serving learners if given the opportunity.
Growing family responsibilities
The mother of several children said the burden of providing for her family has become increasingly difficult. She noted that one of her children is currently pursuing university education while another is expected to join Grade 10 next year, significantly increasing the family’s education expenses.
According to Benardine, the family currently relies on her husband’s casual jobs as their primary source of income, which she says is insufficient to meet their growing needs.
She also appealed to Baringo Senator Kiprono Chemitei, popularly known as “Senator Wa Raia,” and Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren to support her quest for employment, expressing hope that their intervention could help bring her years of waiting to an end.
Benardine said the uncertainty has taken an emotional toll on her, admitting that she has at times struggled with feelings of hopelessness. However, she remains optimistic that her appeal will receive a positive response.

She further called on well-wishers and anyone in a position to assist to support her efforts towards securing employment, saying her greatest desire is to return to the profession she trained for and contribute to improving education in the country.
