An 18-year-old Form Four student who went missing after stepping out to a nearby shop has been found alive after spending more than a week missing, bringing relief to her family and friends.
Quince Wanjiru Wanyee, a resident of Kenyatta Road in Thika, disappeared on the evening of July 23, 2026. She had left her home behind Icon Gardens off Thika Road at about 6:30 p.m. to run a brief errand but failed to return, prompting an intensive search.
The teenager, who was preparing to sit this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination as a private candidate, was last seen dressed in blue sweatpants, an orange jumper, grey Crocs and plaited line braids with rasta braids at the back.
Traced to Nairobi
After nearly ten days of uncertainty, Quince was traced to a house in Nairobi, where she was allegedly being held against her will.
She was rescued safely during an operation by authorities.
Her mother confirmed that a suspect linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently in police custody as detectives continue with investigations into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Following the rescue, Quince was taken for a medical examination to assess her health and well-being.
Her family thanked everyone who shared information, supported the search and kept them in their prayers, saying her safe rescue had brought an end to days of anxiety and uncertainty.
