- Kenya has assembled a formidable rugby contingent for the East Africa Secondary Schools Games set to begin on August 11 in Morogoro, Tanzania, with national champions and top-ranked schools eyeing regional glory.
The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) has confirmed the teams that will represent the country in both Rugby 15s and Rugby Sevens following the conclusion of the National Term Two Games.
In the Rugby 15s boys’ competition, reigning national champions Upper Hill School will lead Kenya’s title quest alongside Kisii School and St. Mary’s Yala. The trio earned qualification after impressive campaigns at the national championships and will be seeking to uphold Kenya’s dominance on the regional stage.
The girls’ Rugby 15s category will feature Kinale Girls, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale and Mwira Girls. The three schools head to Morogoro determined to challenge for top honours after outstanding performances during the national finals.
Sevens teams eye regional glory
Kenya will also field a strong line-up in the Rugby Sevens competition. Butula Boys, Cardinal Otunga Mosocho and Bokoli Boys will represent the country in the boys’ event, with each side expected to provide stiff competition against the region’s finest teams.
In the girls’ Sevens tournament, Kinale Girls will be aiming for double success after qualifying in both Rugby 15s and Rugby Sevens. They will be joined by Kimobo Girls and Mbakalo Girls, completing Kenya’s three-team line-up in the category.
The East Africa Secondary Schools Games will bring together top school teams from across the region, with Kenya seeking to maintain its reputation as a rugby powerhouse. Beyond the battle for medals, the tournament will provide an opportunity for emerging players to showcase their talent before scouts and national youth team selectors.
All eyes will now be on Morogoro as Kenya’s representatives look to deliver another memorable campaign and bring regional rugby honours back home.
