Canon Prof. Okumu-Bigambo, a don at Moi University, has urged education stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE), saying schools must embrace strategic planning and shared responsibility to deliver quality learning.
Speaking at an education forum, Prof. Okumu-Bigambo said schools should strive to become centres of order and excellence where discipline, academic achievement and character development are nurtured simultaneously.
He emphasized that parents have a critical role in shaping learners’ discipline, noting that values instilled at home are fundamental to academic success and responsible citizenship.
The education scholar further called on Boards of Management (BOMs) and parents to support skills competitions in schools, saying the activities provide learners with opportunities to develop practical competencies, creativity and innovation in line with the goals of the CBE curriculum.
Prof. Okumu-Bigambo observed that the Competency-Based Education system remains a work in progress and urged all stakeholders to remain committed as reforms continue to be implemented across the country.
He challenged school administrators, teachers, parents and Boards of Management to develop clear target action plans to address emerging challenges and improve learning outcomes.
“The success of Competency-Based Education will depend on the collective efforts of every stakeholder. We must remain focused, adaptable and committed to ensuring the reforms achieve their intended objectives,” he said.

The Moi University don maintained that stronger collaboration between schools, parents and education managers would enhance curriculum implementation and equip learners with the competencies, values and skills needed to thrive in the modern world.
