Keep politics out of schools, Makueni education b

Makueni Education ECM Japheth Mang’oka has urged parents to keep politics out of schools to promote stability and academic excellence.
He praised AIC Matiliku Boys for maintaining discipline and avoiding unrest over the past five years.
Mang’oka also encouraged students to embrace university and technical education opportunities offered by the county.

Makueni County ECM for ICT, Education and Internship Japheth Mang’oka has called upon parents to keep petty politics out of schools, saying they hinder the smooth running of learning institutions.

Speaking during the AIC Matiliku Boys’ fundraiser for the purchase of a Scania bus, where he was among the invited guests, Mang’oka commended the school’s Board of Management for its unity and for keeping politics and incitement out of the school.

“There are schools where some boards should be dissolved, but here it is a different case. The Board of Management and the PTA have a good relationship, which has made the school shine consistently,” said Mang’oka.

He also commended the students for their discipline, noting that AIC Matiliku Boys has not experienced a strike in the last five years, even during a term when many schools experienced unrest, including incidents in which students were killed after school dormitories were set ablaze.

“I went to Kaumoni Boys, and the only thing I found intact and standing within the school compound was the statue of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The rest had been damaged, including salt being poured into the school generator. The only person I pitied was the parent who will bear all the cost,” said Mang’oka.

He announced that when Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr assumed office in 2022, the county sponsored 90 bright and needy students, who are now joining university. Of these, 14 attained straight As and are fully sponsored by the county government to pursue further studies.

Mang’oka encouraged students who did not qualify for university to enrol in County Technical Training Institutes (CTTIs) and acquire practical skills, adding that the county has invested heavily to ensure that no learner or KCSE grade goes to waste.
