Police in Uriri Sub‑County, Migori County, are holding a 17‑year‑old Grade 9 student accused of killing his classmate after a dispute over learning materials escalated into violence. The suspect, a learner at Akonjo Junior Secondary School, was arrested shortly after the incident and is expected to face a murder charge.
According to authorities, the confrontation began on the morning of July 22 when the suspect accused the victim of interfering with his locker and personal study materials. Investigators believe the disagreement simmered throughout the day, with the suspect allegedly skipping afternoon lessons to plan the attack.

Kamgundho Location Chief Samuel Onjiko, who apprehended the teenager before handing him over to police, said the suspect confronted the victim later that evening as he walked home from school. Armed with a panga, the suspect allegedly attacked his classmate, leaving him critically injured.
The victim was rushed to Migori Level Four Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. His body was later transferred to the hospital mortuary, where a post‑mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
