Nakuru is set to host top learners from across the Rift Valley region for the 2026 Rift Valley Primary and Junior Schools Term Two Regional Championships, following the release of the official programme by the Regional Co-curricular Committee.

The committee unveiled the itinerary after a planning meeting held at Nakuru High School, setting the stage for one of the region’s biggest school sporting events.

Ahead of the competitions, an officials’ clinic will be held on July 17 from 8:00 a.m. to prepare referees, judges, coaches and other technical personnel for the week-long championships. The clinic is expected to harmonise rules and ensure smooth management of the event.

Participating teams from counties across the vast Rift Valley region are expected to arrive in Nakuru on the same day, July 17, by 5:00 p.m. for registration, accreditation and final preparations ahead of the opening competitions.

Action will then move to the playing fields and courts from July 18 to July 22, as learners compete across various disciplines for regional honours and qualification slots to the national championships. The event is expected to draw hundreds of pupils, junior school learners, teachers, coaches and education officials.

Schools have been using county championships as a pathway to regional contests, a trend that has made the upcoming event highly competitive. Education stakeholders have urged teams to adhere strictly to the official programme and ensure that all participants meet the required eligibility and registration requirements before reporting to Nakuru.

Beyond the competition itself, the championships provide an important platform for nurturing talent, promoting sportsmanship and identifying promising athletes capable of progressing to higher levels of competition.

The Rift Valley region remains one of the strongest performers in school sports, consistently producing national champions and outstanding athletes in disciplines such as football, volleyball, netball, athletics and other co-curricular activities.

With preparations now entering their final phase, anticipation is building among schools and learners as they look forward to showcasing their talents and competing for coveted slots at the national championships.
