A school principal has been arrested and arraigned in court over allegations of sexually abusing several students, in a case that has sparked concern among parents and education stakeholders in Kiambu County.
The accused is the principal of PCEA Mai-a-Ihii Booth Boys High School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County. Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Ndege confirmed the arrest and charging of the school head, saying investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
According to Ndege, the allegations came to light after some students disclosed the alleged abuse, prompting authorities to launch investigations. Detectives are continuing to record statements from students, teachers and other witnesses as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents and determine whether there could be additional victims.
In a new development, police have also arrested the chairman of the school’s Board of Management (BOM) over allegations of obstructing justice during the investigations. Authorities did not immediately provide further details but said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the inquiry proceeds without interference.
Ndege said the affected students have already received counselling and psychosocial support to help them cope with the trauma arising from the alleged incidents, adding that the welfare and protection of the learners remains a priority as investigations continue.

The case has attracted the attention of child protection agencies and education stakeholders, who are closely monitoring developments. It has also raised fresh concerns about the safety and welfare of learners in boarding schools, with parents and stakeholders calling for swift investigations and justice for any victims.
Some parents of the affected students have requested that their children be transferred to other schools, citing concerns over the emotional and psychological impact of the alleged abuse. They argue that a change of learning environment could help the learners recover and continue with their education without being constantly reminded of the traumatic experiences.
Police have urged anyone with information that may assist investigators to come forward and cooperate with authorities as they work to establish the full extent of the allegations. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability and safeguarding the rights and welfare of learners.
The principal remains in custody as investigations into the case are ongoing. Under Kenyan law, all accused persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
