St. Joseph’s Boys High School-Kitale Chief Principal Mr. Cosmas Nabungolo has, for the first time, publicly hinted that his retirement from the teaching profession is fast approaching, revealing that the current Form Four class could be the last group of students he mentors before officially hanging up his boots.
Nabungolo made the emotional revelation while addressing parents, students, teachers and guests during the school’s annual candidates’ prayer day, an event held to spiritually prepare the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates for their final examinations.
Speaking with gratitude and emotion, the veteran educationist disclosed that he has dedicated 30 years of his life to teaching and educational leadership, a journey that has seen him nurture thousands of learners who have gone on to become professionals, leaders and changemakers in different sectors of society.
Reflecting on his career, Nabungolo noted that watching former students excel in their respective professions remains one of the greatest rewards of his decades of service.
“This year’s candidates may well be the last class I oversee before I retire,” he told the gathering. This statement drew a mixture of reflection and appreciation from those in attendance.
He challenged the candidates to remain focused on their studies, uphold discipline and work tirelessly as they prepare for the national examinations, reminding them that success is earned through commitment, consistency and determination.

The principal emphasized that the 2026 candidates occupy a special place in his heart because they are likely to be the final cohort to complete their secondary education under his leadership.
He urged them to make history by producing outstanding examination results that would not only make their parents proud but also crown his three-decade career with another remarkable academic achievement.
Nabungolo also paid tribute to the many students who have passed through his hands over the years, saying their achievements across different professions stand as a testimony to the transformative power of education and the collective effort of teachers, parents and learners.
Although Nabungolo did not disclose the exact date of his retirement, his remarks strongly signalled that the 2026 KCSE candidates could mark the final chapter of a distinguished career spanning three decades in Kenya’s education sector.
His anticipated departure is expected to bring to a close a remarkable legacy defined by academic excellence, visionary leadership, student mentorship and unwavering dedication to nurturing future generations.
For countless former students, parents and colleagues, Cosmas Nabungolo will be remembered not only as a school administrator but as a mentor, disciplinarian and educator whose influence has extended far beyond the walls of St. Joseph’s Boys High School, Kitale.
