A Form Three dropout in West Pokot County is seeking assistance to join a vocational training college in order to accomplish his dream of acquiring education and skills.

“The thirst for education is still in me since I dropped out of school when only one year remained before completion,” said Allan Ngeywa.

Ngeywa was born in Keringet, West Pokot County, in 2003 and began his early education in Keringet before transferring to Makutano Primary School, where he studied from Grade Four to Grade Eight.

He sat his KCPE examination in 2020 and attained grades that enabled him to secure admission to Form One at Mnagei Secondary School in Makutano Town.

Ngeywa said his mother, Sylvia Neko, a single parent, struggled to provide food and education for him and his four brothers, making the responsibility overwhelming.

“It was due to school fees challenges that I dropped out of school while in Form Three,” said Ngeywa.

Working to survive

Education News caught up with him at a car wash in Kapenguria, where he was busy washing vehicles to earn a living.

Ngeywa explained that work at the car wash is often unreliable because there are days when there are few or no customers.

“The challenge is that sometimes there are no motorcycles or cars to wash, meaning there is no income on such days,” he said.

To supplement his earnings, he also works on farms and at construction sites whenever opportunities arise.

Ngeywa is now appealing to well-wishers, sponsors and education stakeholders to support him in joining a vocational training college.

He says he is ready to undertake any technical course that will equip him with practical skills and help him improve his future prospects.

“If I get assistance from any sponsor or well-wisher, I am ready to study any skill at a vocational training college,” he said.
