AC Butonge Senior School in Bungoma West, Bungoma County has unveiled plans for its inaugural Mathematics Contest, an academic initiative aimed at promoting excellence in mathematics and enhancing learners’ problem-solving skills.
The competition, organized by the school’s Mathematics Department, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the school grounds beginning at 7:00 a.m.
According to the organizers, the contest seeks to provide a platform for students to showcase their mathematical abilities while building confidence in the subject. The event is expected to bring together learners from various schools in a bid to encourage academic competitiveness and innovation.
Participating schools will be required to field teams of 10 students per class category, including Form Three, Form Four, and Grade 10 learners. Institutions will also have the option of registering multiple teams at a fee of Ksh 2,000 per team.

To reward outstanding performance, organizers have set aside an array of prizes, including a full year’s school fees sponsorship for top students in every form from the day school category. Additional awards will be presented to top performers across different categories.
The competition will also recognize excellence among institutions, with trophies earmarked for the Best Boys’ School, Best Girls’ School, Best Mixed Boarding School, Best Day School, and Best Overall School. Individual awards will further be presented to the highest-performing students in each category.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that mathematics competitions play a critical role in nurturing analytical thinking, creativity, and a passion for STEM-related disciplines among learners.
The event is expected to attract participants from across the region, reinforcing AC Butonge High School’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic learner development.
