The African Talent University held a historic graduation ceremony in Kisumu County, marking the realization of a vision that founder and sponsor Prof. Humphrey Oborah says has been more than 20 years in the making.

The colourful event brought together graduates, parents, educators, government officials, entrepreneurs, and development partners in a celebration of talent, innovation, and creativity.

Among the graduands was music legend Prince Hinda, whose achievement reflected the institution’s philosophy of recognizing talent, experience, and demonstrated competence alongside traditional academic qualifications.

Reflecting on the university’s journey, Prof. Oborah said Africa possesses enormous untapped human potential that should be identified, nurtured, and certified.

“Our mission has always been to discover, develop, assess, and certify talent wherever it exists,” he said.

According to Oborah, the graduation represented the culmination of years of research, advocacy, policy engagement, institutional development, and curriculum innovation.

“It means that talent, experience, innovation, and demonstrated competence should be recognized alongside traditional academic achievement,” he added.

Exhibitions showcasing

The ceremony also featured exhibitions showcasing business ventures, creative products, technological concepts, artistic productions, and community-impact initiatives developed by graduates.

One of the standout moments involved graduand Joel Kariuki, who was called to the stage three times to receive qualifications in different fields, drawing prolonged applause from guests.

His achievement sparked discussion among educators and parents about the limitations of traditional education systems that often require learners to specialize in a single pathway despite possessing strengths in multiple disciplines.
