Nyamira North Subcounty will stage its secondary school sports competitions next week following the qualification of St. Francis Gekendo and Nyakwerema Secondary Schools from the Ekerenyo Zone soccer tournament.
The two schools secured their places after impressive performances in the highly competitive zonal championships, which attracted several secondary schools from across the zone. St. Francis Gekendo and Nyakwerema demonstrated strong teamwork and determination throughout the tournament.
Other schools that participated included Kiabonyoru, Nyagokiani, and Nyamiranga secondary schools. However, some teams failed to progress after some of their players were not captured in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) portal, affecting their eligibility for the matches.

Education officials in Nyamira North said the subcounty games will feature various disciplines, including soccer, volleyball, netball, athletics, and other ball games. The competitions will provide learners with an opportunity to showcase their talents and compete for a chance to represent the subcounty at the county level.
Sports coordinators noted that school games play an important role in promoting discipline, teamwork, and unity among learners and schools. They urged school administrators and teachers to support their teams, ensure timely updates of the KSSSA portal, and adequately prepare students ahead of the tournament.
The subcounty sports office confirmed that all logistical arrangements have been finalized, with venues and fixtures expected to be released early next week.
