- A Kisii University student has died after falling from the seventh floor of Elimu Centre in what police suspect may be a case of suicide.
- The incident has come just a week after another student, Boaz Monari, died in a motorcycle accident along the Kisii-Kilgoris road.
Kisii University was again engulfed in mourning after a student reportedly fell from the seventh floor of Elimu Centre and died on Tuesday evening.
Elimu Centre is located within Kisii Town CBD. It is a multi-storey commercial building popularly known as Umoja Elimu Centre, which houses several colleges, including JKUAT Kisii Campus, business premises, and student hostels commonly used by students from Kisii University and other institutions.
According to preliminary reports from students and police, the student is said to have fallen from the seventh floor of the building in what is suspected to be a case of suicide. He died on the spot, causing panic among students who were around the building at the time. Police officers from Kisii Central Police Station visited the scene and moved the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

Other students who spoke to this publication alleged that the incident may have been linked to a dispute involving his girlfriend, though the claims could not be independently verified and remain under investigation.

The death comes barely a week after another fourth-year student, identified as Boaz Monari, died in a road accident along the Kisii-Kilgoris road. Monari, also a student at Kisii University, reportedly died after being involved in a motorcycle accident while travelling along the busy highway.
The two incidents have thrown the university fraternity into deep mourning and raised concern among parents and leaders. The university administration is yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident, but sources said guidance and counselling officers have been deployed to help affected students.
Police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
