A graduate from Kenya Cooperative University, identified as Abdishakur Ali Ibrein, drowned on Saturday morning at Kieni Waterfalls along River Kiambeni in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, while hiking with friends during a recreational trip.
Ali and his friends were reportedly enjoying the scenery and swimming in the natural water body when the incident occurred, leading to his sudden death.
A search operation involving local residents and community members has been ongoing, leaving family members worried and distressed.

“We request any willing citizen to help us retrieve the body of our son, who was ambitious and full of dreams that have now been cut short during his recreational moments,” said a family member.
The family further claimed that the ongoing protests and barricaded roads had disrupted rescue efforts and complicated access for emergency teams and nearby authorities.
