Learning at Tambach High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County has been suspended indefinitely following a student protest that saw learners march from the school to Iten Town.
The unrest disrupted normal learning activities as students staged demonstrations, although the cause of the protest had not been officially disclosed by the time of publication.
Witnesses said the learners moved in large numbers toward Iten, attracting attention from residents and motorists along the route.
School Principal Michael Cheruiyot confirmed the closure, saying the institution’s Board of Management had convened a crisis meeting to assess the situation and determine the way forward.
He noted that despite the tension witnessed during the protest, only minimal damage was reported within the school compound.
The administration also moved swiftly to restore calm and ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school property.
Parents were advised to remain calm as the school management works with education officials and security agencies to address the matter.
Students were directed to leave the institution and await further communication regarding reopening dates and reporting procedures.
