In retrospect, as from April 7, 2026 to May 6, 2026, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened its portal for online application of courses. So, the KCSE Class of 2025 logged into the portal to apply for degree courses offered in both public and private university.
Haply, the same coterie applied for diploma and craft and artisan certificate courses offered in Technical and Vocational Education and Technical Colleges (TVETs). Applicants privileged to receive SMS notification confirming provisional placement are advised not to apply again during the revision window. For it means the placement is being processed. So, it is wise to wait.
Then, as it is part of the tradition, after the application process, KUCCPS opens the window for first and second revision of courses on the portal. So, in this season of reason, the first revision should run as from May 16 to 22, 2026. Therefore, how should students go about it?
Firstly, the revision process focuses on applicants that missed their desired courses in the placement process. This happens mostly to students that picked courses whose cut-off points were way above their weighted cluster points.
For during maiden application, some students are not quite keen to consider the cut-off points indicated on the system. In case they do it carelessly in the first revision, they may end up getting into the second revision. Advisedly, a keen applicant should not apply for any course in case the cut-off for the previous year is above his or her weighted cluster points.

Secondly, students poised to engage in first revision might have ignored the trend over the last few years in the cut-off points for the course applied for. Students on the peripheral part should be more cautious.
For in case the cut-off points are increasing over the years; then, perhaps the applicants met the cut-off points for the previous year. But the bar went higher the following year. The applicant would only be lucky in case the cut-off points are reduced.
Thirdly, some students miss varsity slots in the application process because they go for the most competitive universities – city-based ones. Yet, they could have easily secured slots in other public universities based upcountry. Somehow, there is a gold-rush for city-based campuses.
The high demand raises the qualification for courses universities that are highly sought after. Meaning, most of the slots in such campuses are secured by top achievers in KCSE. The applicants privileged to secure slots in the first application are smart. They are in top fraction of a percentage of candidates that scooped best grades.
So, for students whose applications for courses on KUCCPS portal were not successful, it is advisable that they log into KUCCPS portal and select other available courses. For perhaps due to stiff competition and limited capacities, it was not possible to secure placement in the course of choice.
Through it all, applicants have another opportunity of revising their options and choices. As well as applying for available programmes or institutions. Good courses are still available.

It may not be possible to get the exact name of the course of preference, but there is hope in securing another good course. Therefore, it is wise to explore multiple options. More importantly, while engaging in revision, there is no need of making another payment. In lieu, the applicant should use the same eCitizen payment reference number used in the first application.
Moreover, during revision, the applicant may fail to see all programmes and institutions as it was in the first application process. Somewhat, programmes such as Medicine and Engineering are filled during the first application. Once such slots are taken, the system automatically removes them from the KUCCPS portal.
Therefore, it may not be possible to re-apply for the same choices. Many a time, during the revision process, the KUCCPS portal displays programmes and institutions that still have available capacities. Therefore, it is important to select available options so as to increase chances of securing placement.
Finally, it is instructive to note. The revision window is not the same as the transfer window. The inter-institution transfer where a student can opt to move from university x to university y is not yet open.
In case an applicant has been placed in a particular university and perhaps s/he is not sated with it, s/he can make changes during the inter-institution transfer period. Likewise, in case the applicant falls in the category of applicants of yesteryears, s/he will have the opportunity to apply during that particular period.
