The Senate Education Committee has commenced a week-long oversight visit across four counties to assess the state of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).
The exercise, running from May 17 to May 22, 2026, will see senators visit Narok county, Bomet county, Kericho County and Nakuru county as part of the Senate’s constitutional oversight mandate on devolved education functions.
According to the schedule released by the committee, the team will conduct its inspection in Narok County on today before proceeding to Bomet on tomorrow, Kericho on Wednesday and Nakuru on Thursday.
The oversight mission is expected to focus on the condition of ECDE infrastructure, teacher staffing, learner enrolment, feeding programmes, availability of learning materials, and the performance of county-run vocational training institutions.

The committee, chaired by Betty Montet, has in recent weeks been engaging counties across the country to evaluate progress, challenges and policy implementation in ECDE and TVET sectors.
Recent sessions held with counties including Siaya, Kirinyaga and Nyeri revealed concerns over staffing shortages, low VTC enrolment, policy gaps, and the need for stronger investment in school feeding programmes and infrastructure development.
The committee is expected to meet county education officials, inspect learning facilities and gather views from stakeholders during the visits.
Education stakeholders are keenly awaiting the findings of the tour, which could shape future policy recommendations and funding priorities for devolved education programmes across the country.
