Joseph Ole Lenku on May 13, 2026, released KSh 50 million in bursary and scholarship funds, ensuring thousands of students across the county can continue their education without interruption.
The disbursement is the first tranche of an annual kitty of KSh 200 million set aside by the county government to support learners at the secondary, tertiary, and university levels. A total of 12,000 students are expected to benefit from the funds.
Speaking during the payout, Lenku said the release was aimed at ensuring children remain in school uninterrupted, underscoring the county government’s commitment to education as a driver of development.
The governor took the opportunity to visit some of the beneficiaries in local secondary schools, where he was received by their principals. He was accompanied by Majority Leader John Loisa of Dalalekutuk, as well as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

Lenku singled out County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Janet Sereu and Chief Officer Isaac Mnaani Nayayio for praise over what he described as timely preparation of the payouts.
The bursary and scholarship programme targets learners across multiple levels of education, reflecting the county government’s broad approach to retaining students in school from secondary level through to university.
