Ainamoi Member of Parliament (MP) Benjamin Langat has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to education through continued disbursement of National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursaries.
Speaking at at Kaptebeswet Secondary School in Kipchebor Ward during a bursary disbursement exercise, Langat observed that the programme remains a key intervention in reducing school dropout rates among learners from low-income households.
The lawmaker noted that economic pressures facing households have significantly increased demand for bursary support, stretching available allocations and placing pressure on the constituency’s education funding framework.
He added that the initiative forms part of the NG-CDF education support programme in Ainamoi Constituency, aimed at cushioning vulnerable families against the rising cost of secondary and tertiary education.
Despite economic hardship, the legislator assured residents that the NG-CDF committee was working within its mandate to ensure equitable and transparent distribution of funds, with priority given to the most deserving learners.
“Education is the greatest equalizer, and we must ensure that no child is locked out of school because of lack of fees,” said Langat.
He emphasized that the bursary programme is designed to keep learners in school regardless of their socio-economic background, noting that education remains a key driver of social and economic transformation.

The MP also urged local education committees to uphold integrity in the selection process, warning against bias, favouritism or manipulation in identifying beneficiaries.
“We must remain fair and transparent so that every shilling allocated reaches the most needy learners,” he added.
Eric Kipkirui Bett Watchman, the Member of County Assembly for Kipchebor Ward, commended the NG-CDF initiative, describing it as a lifeline for many struggling families within the constituency.
He said many households would not be able to sustain children in school without bursary support from the fund.
“We appreciate the continued support from the NG-CDF office. Many families would not manage school fees without this intervention,” said Bett.
He further called for stronger accountability mechanisms to ensure timely and efficient disbursement of bursary funds across the constituency, noting that delays often affect school planning and learner retention.
Education stakeholders present at the event observed that NG-CDF bursaries continue to play a crucial role in improving school retention rates in the region, especially among vulnerable learners in secondary schools.
However, they noted that increasing applications for financial assistance continue to outpace available resources, creating a significant funding gap.
They appealed for sustained government support and broader policy interventions to complement constituency-based bursaries in addressing long-term education financing challenges and ensuring no learner is left behind due to lack of school fees.
