Schools intensify preparations ahead of KSSSA games with friendly matches

Schools across the Nyanza and Western regions are stepping up their preparations ahead of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games scheduled for this weekend, using friendly matches to sharpen tactics, build cohesion, and assess team readiness.

At Cardinal Otunga in Kisii County, the boys’ football build-up matches delivered competitive action as teams tested their form.

Cardinal Otunga played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Nyabando in an evenly contested match that showcased attacking flair from both sides.

Cardinal Otunga later responded strongly with a convincing 3-1 win over Nyamagwa, showing improved finishing and coordination.

Nyamagwa also managed to bounce back in their final fixture, securing a 2-0 victory over Nyabando in another tight encounter.

Meanwhile, in Kakamega County, Mwira Girls produced a dominant display in their friendly matches, sending a strong warning to upcoming opponents ahead of the KSSSA games.

They overpowered Indangalasia Secondary School 9-0, followed by a 4-0 win against Shirumbwe Secondary School, before completing a stunning 18-0 demolition of St. Ann Nangeni Secondary School.

The emphatic results have raised expectations around the Kakamega-based side, with Coach Gorah Josh expressing confidence in his team’s readiness.

“These performances show we are on the right track. The girls are responding well tactically and physically, and we are ready for the challenge ahead,” he noted.

The friendly matches have offered coaches a crucial opportunity to evaluate squad depth, correct tactical weaknesses, and finalize selections as schools head into the highly anticipated KSSSA competitions this weekend.
