The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) has come out strongly against allegations that it has been deducting Ksh200 monthly from the salaries of thousands of female teachers without their consent, dismissing the claims as malicious fabrications.
According to a press release signed by the KEWOTA secretariat dated April 12, 2026, the association categorically rejected the exposé aired by KTN TV under the headline “KEWOTA Payroll Heist.”
“The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) categorically, unequivocally, and vehemently dismisses the malicious and patently false exposé aired by KTN television on 12th April 2026 and repeated on 13th April 2026 under the sensational headline ‘KEWOTA Payroll Heist.’ We wish to state, without fear of contradiction whatsoever, that the allegations propagated therein are not only baseless but are a calculated fabrication, orchestrated with reckless disregard for truth, professional ethics, and the law,” the press release read.
The statement went further to single out the individual behind the claims has formally admitted in writing that his assertions were unverified, misleading, and actuated by malice aforethought.

According to KEWOTA, this admission alone irredeemably collapses the credibility of the entire broadcast. Despite this incontrovertible retraction, the continued airing of the defamatory content, according to KEWOTA, constitutes a grave violation of established legal principles, including defamation and a blatant breach of journalistic standards as contemplated under the Media Council Act, 2013.
KEWOTA insisted that the allegations were misleading and designed to tarnish its reputation. undermine its leadership, and erode public confidence in its operations.
The association confirmed that it had already taken steps to pursue justice. “Accordingly, KEWOTA has formally petitioned the DCI to institute immediate and thorough investigations into all individuals and entities complicit in this defamatory scheme.
While declining to respond to each allegation in detail, KEWOTA defended its staff and internal processes.
“We will not respond to each and every salacious allegation today except to state every employee at KEWOTA holds the requisite qualifications for the jobs they hold and none has been employed outside the established process. But this is a relatively young organisation and we shall do what is professionally feasible to strengthen our internal standards where necessary. KEWOTA shall not keep on its roll employees who are indisciplined, lazy, or duplicitous whatever the consequences and irrespective of their sponsors or protectors,” the press release read.

KEWOTA vowed to remain firm in the face of what it termed orchestrated falsehoods. “Let it be known that KEWOTA shall not be cowed, intimidated, or distracted by orchestrated falsehoods. We remain resolute, steadfast, and committed to upholding integrity, transparency, and the rule of law,” the press release read.
KEWOTA acknowledged the concerns raised but urged members and the public to avoid rushing to judgment. It pledged to cooperate fully with any investigations. The association also assured stakeholders of its financial accountability. “Our books of account are current and available and accessible to all stakeholders,” the press release read.
