Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has officially launched its 2026 Innovation Emporium Week, with a strong focus on developing sustainable, community-driven solutions through research, technology, and entrepreneurship.
The week-long event was opened on Monday, April 13, 2026, by Vice Chancellor Solomon Shibairo. The launch also marked the commencement of a 72-hour hackathon aimed at accelerating innovation in key development areas.
This year’s theme, “Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship for Building Sustainable and Adaptive Indigenous Solutions for the Community,” underscores the university’s push to align academic research with practical, locally relevant problem-solving.
The hackathon has brought together students, researchers, and innovators to develop solutions across four priority areas: digital transformation and artificial intelligence, climate resilience and green innovation, health systems and biomedical innovation, and entrepreneurship, industry, and commercialization.
