Esther Akutan, who scored 357 marks at Alale Girls Primary, secured a slot at Turkana Girls High after emerging among the top performers in her county.
Her fate, however, now hangs in the balance since her guardian cannot afford Sh53,000 school fees required to join Form One.
Akutan who hails from Sasak Village in North Pokot Sub-county claim to have been rejected by her parents after escaping early marriage.
She is appealing for help from well-wishers, “I may lose the slot and have my dreams dimmed. I feel bad seeing my fellow girls joining school yet my dreams seem to be shattered,” she said.
Rufinar Cheutich, the head teacher of Alale Girls Primary said that the school had allowed her to study for free the whole of 2017 since she was bright.
