As the Nyanza Region Secondary School Games enters Regionals, all eyes are fixed on Ageng’a Mixed Secondary to dethrone the title holders Nyamira Girls High.
Ageng’a Mixed first came into the limelight in 2022, stunning spectators by dethroning Dede Girls to claim the hockey championship.
Their remarkable feat was not coincidence as they repeated their victory last year and are poised to make it a hat-trick this year.
Co-hosted by Kisumu Girls, Kisumu Boys and Kisumu Day High School in next week, the 2024 Nyanza Region Secondary School games final games promise a thrilling display of talent and fierce competition.

Under the guidance of former Sinyolo Girls hockey coach Aloice Owino who has won five East African tittles, Ageng’a Mixed has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past three years.
Their sporting journey has witnessed upward trajectory of improvement and ambition.
They made the semis of Nyanza Region games in 2022 and finished as runner- up in the last year’s edition.
Owino, the architect behind the institution’s achievement, believe the team is ready for top position.
“Our growth over the past three years has been tremendous. We learn from every match and today we stand stronger more than skilled, and more united than ever before. We believe this is our year to shine at the Regionals and make our mark in the Nationals finals,” Owino said
Ageng’a has been applying the strategy of rigorous preparation, tactical finesse and fostering winning mind-set among the players.
Owino’s success and experience with Sinyolo Girls has also played pivotal role in transforming Ageng’a into hockey power house in the region.
Agengas captain Everline Akinyi is also a beacon of leadership and resilience in the field. She emphasized on collective effort and determination.
“We’ve been training harder than before. Our focus has been on refining our techniques, enhancing our team work and building our mental strength. We are just aiming to win the regionals,” Akinyi added.
The team’s morale is boosted by their recent 4-0 triumph over Anjego Secondary School in the Migori County finals, the form which they aim to carry to the Nyanza regional games.
