Kabarak University has honoured former Chief Justice David Maraga with the Honorary Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) for his outstanding dedication to upholding the rule of law.
Speaking during the University’s 19th graduation ceremony, Chancellor Gideon Moi praised Maraga’s exceptional service in the public sector and unwavering Christian faith, which aligns with the university’s vision and mission.
He said that the recognition is an honour for someone of Maraga’s stature, acknowledging his distinguished service to the country.
The former Senator said that despite the challenges posed by the government’s decision to cease funding students in private universities, Kabarak University remains steadfast in its Christian foundation and guidance.
Professor John Kibosia, Chair of the Kabarak University Governing Council, reiterated Maraga’s exceptional contributions to the nation, leading to the unanimous approval of his application.
Chief Justice David Maraga will be remembered in history for his unprecedented actions, including overturning the 2017 presidential election results and recommending the dissolution of Parliament for failing to pass the two-thirds gender law.
Additionally, he played a significant role in reducing case backlog and expanding courtroom facilities.
