KCB Bank Kenya has partnered with public universities to help finance the shift to cleaner and more efficient campuses as institutions seek to cut costs and adopt climate-friendly solutions.
The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will support universities in accessing financing for projects such as solar power, energy-saving systems, clean cooking technologies, waste management, biogas, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting.
KCB Bank Kenya Managing Director Annastacia Kimtai said the partnership would use sustainable finance to address the funding gap that often prevents institutions from investing in clean-energy solutions. She said KCB was ready to work with universities to unlock opportunities for long-term institutional sustainability while supporting their role as centres of innovation, adding that the projects would help universities reduce their operating costs related to climate challenges. “By supporting practical sustainability solutions, we are helping create healthier, more efficient and sustainable learning environments for students, staff and the communities around them,” Kimtai said.

The partnership is also expected to promote the development of green infrastructure and skills among students, preparing them for a job market increasingly shaped by environmental and clean-energy needs.
The initiative will allow universities to invest in practical environmental solutions while creating more sustainable learning environments for future generations.
