Bees pupils attacked education

49 pupils  from Kari DEB Primary School in Kisii Central were hospitalized after a swarm of Bees attacked them near the school playing ground.

The school head teacher, Abel Maseno recounted the incident reporting that some students left the school to search for fruits from a nearby dumpsite during the lunchtime break.

Unintentionally, they disturbed a swarm of bees leading to the unfortunate attack on younger pupils as they ran back to the school.

The pupils were immediately rushed to the hospital.

Acting Hospital Administrator at Oresi Sub County Hospital Christabel Otieno said among the affected students, 14 suffered severe anaphylactic reactions, necessitating immediate medical attention.

“The remaining 35 pupils have stabilized and were discharged from the facility, while the rest are expected to be discharged soon,” she said.

Stakeholders from the Ministry of Education in Kisii have asked the county government to relocate the hazardous dumpsite located next to the school highlighting the potential danger it poses to the pupil’s well-being.
