Governor Barasa condoles with family of fallen KNUT boss

Kakamega Governor has sent condolences to the family of the late John Wesonga Lutta, now former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) second Vice National Chairperson and Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KAWASCO) Director, who passed away on July 6, 2023 after battling illness for a long time.

In a letter dated July 6, 2023 seen by Education News, the Governor described the deceased as a decorated unionist who will be remembered for his relentless fight for the rights of teachers.

He also described Wesonga as a profound leader who helped shape the education sector through his fierce and wise counsel in education-related matters.

“On behalf of County Staff and the people of Kakamega County, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mwalimu John Wesonga. May his soul rest in peace,” the letter read in part.

The late Wesonga first clinched leadership in the Union when he was elected as the Mumias/Butere branch Executive Secretary in a by-election held in 2003 following the passing of Amos Eshikumo who passed away in a fatal accident in Butere.

Until his passing he was Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) second Vice National Chairperson.
