- Ebenezer Springs learners Isaac Masinde and Promise Ushindi have taken the top two positions in the Grade 6–8 category at the Kiwimbi Mathematics Contest.

Ebenezer Springs School of Malaba has produced the top two performers in the Grade 6–8 individual category at the August edition of the Kiwimbi Mathematics Contest, with Grade Eight learner Isaac Masinde emerging overall winner and schoolmate Promise Ushindi finishing second.
Masinde beat more than 200 contestants through five rounds of computerised mathematics questions to claim the top spot, winning Sh10,000, a gold medal and a certificate. Ushindi earned Sh5,000, a silver medal and a certificate for her second-place finish, while Michael Bright Njoroge of Model Junior School took third, receiving Sh2,000, a bronze medal and a certificate.
The contest was held at Kiwimbi Library, with the final rounds staged at St Thomas Amagoro Girls High School hall on Friday.
In the Grade 9–10 category, Edutat Ekakoro of Friends School Kamusinga emerged champion, winning Sh10,000, a gold medal and a certificate. Wesley Gift of Model Junior School finished second, while Rewel Okapesi of Acacia Park School placed third.
At the school level, Camel View emerged the best institution in Grade 6–8, followed by Wisdom Quest and Ebenezer Springs, while Acacia Park School topped the Grade 9–10 category ahead of Camel View and Cardinal Otunga.

Masinde attributed his success to hard work and regular practice, saying he solves about 20 mathematics questions every day. He said he plans to use his prize money to buy a goat that he hopes will eventually help finance his senior secondary education.
“I will buy a goat which I will rear. It will help to pay some of my school fees in senior secondary,” he said.
He also credited his teachers, Kiwimbi Library and his mother, Judith Isegere, for supporting his education. His mathematics teacher, Immaculate Obala, welcomed the results, saying the competition had exposed learners to a wider academic environment and sharpened their problem-solving skills.
Ushindi, who finished 10th in the third edition of the contest held in April, attributed her improved performance to determination and hard work, adding that her target for next year’s KJSEA is 70 points.

Ekakoro said regular visits to Kiwimbi Library had strengthened his mathematics skills and improved his access to learning materials, particularly Grade 10 textbooks, and that the contest had enhanced his ability to think critically and solve mathematical problems quickly and efficiently. He plans to share part of his prize money with his parents and grandparents and to replace a calculator he lost on Thursday.
The strong showing by Ebenezer Springs underscores the growing competitiveness of the Kiwimbi Mathematics Contest, which continues to provide a platform for identifying and nurturing mathematical talent among learners in the region.
