President William Ruto has officially launched the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Lower Kabete, Nairobi, marking a major step in advancing leadership development, public governance and regional policy research.
Launched during the Kenya School of Government’s centenary celebrations, the academy is envisioned as a premier regional hub for leadership training, governance excellence, innovation and public policy, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to building capable public sector leaders and strengthening governance across the region.
The initiative seeks to equip current and emerging leaders from Kenya and across Africa with the skills, values and knowledge required to build accountable, ethical and transformative institutions.
According to the Kenya School of Government and its partners, the academy is being established in honour of the leadership legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, whose decades of public service and advocacy for democratic reforms and good governance have had a lasting impact on Kenya’s political landscape.
The launch also forms part of the Kenya School of Government’s long-term vision as the institution commemorates a century of training public servants.

Speaking during the earlier signing of the partnership that established the academy, industrialist and philanthropist Manu Chandaria hailed Raila Odinga as “one of Kenya’s most consequential leaders,” saying the institution would nurture future leaders in both government and the opposition while safeguarding his legacy for generations.
The academy is set to offer executive leadership programmes, conduct governance research, facilitate policy dialogue, drive innovation initiatives and provide capacity-building courses targeting public servants, elected leaders, diplomats and professionals from across the region.
It also aims to advance ethical leadership, strengthen regional integration and promote good governance, supporting Kenya’s ambition of building a competitive knowledge-based economy.
The launch was among the key highlights of the Kenya School of Government’s centenary celebrations, which attracted senior government officials, diplomats, county leaders, scholars and development partners.
The event also featured high-level discussions on strategies for building national wealth, advancing public sector reforms and enhancing Kenya’s global competitiveness.
President William Ruto said the academy will reflect the leadership values, vision and aspirations that have defined Raila Odinga’s distinguished public service career, while serving as a continental centre of excellence for leadership, governance and public policy.
