The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Eliud Owalo has launched the Jitume Digital laboratory at Rongo University in Migori County.
The project, sponsored by Konza Technologies under the Jitume Labs programme, will enable the youth to acquire digital skills vital to opening up business opportunities through e-commerce.
The laboratory is equipped with 100 modern computers and will accommodate 100 students per session.
Owalo reiterated that the government will establish similar laboratories and Wi-Fi spots in all wards in the country to encourage the youth to explore the digital economy.
The CS noted that technology was a game changer in the current economy and urged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to earn a living.

His sentiments were echoed by Konza Technopolis acting CEO John Okwiri who added that the use of computers is a gateway for students to establish themselves.
Rongo University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Samuel Gudu observed that the government had shown a good gesture through the donation.
Also in attendance were Principal Secretary for ICT John Tanui, Migori County Commissioner David Gitonga, Rongo University staff and other government officials.
