Early pregnancies among school girls in Kilifi County have been attributed to night ‘disco matangas’ in the county.
Speaking during Safer Internet Day national celebrations held at Karisa Maitha grounds in Kilifi town recently, Ganze sub county Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Luise Rono, who represented Commissioner Mr. Kutswa Olaka cautioned that anybody found to conduct such events will be arrested and charged.
Rono urged parents to discourage their school children from attending the ‘disco matangas’ and further, to monitor closely their children’s movements while bring them up in a proper way to enable them become responsible citizens in the future.
At the same time, the Administrator disclosed that early pregnancies and early marriages among school girls equally contributed to low education levels in the county.
He asked all parents in the region to cooperate fully and take all their children to school.
Rono noted that rapid development in the region needed educated people who will be charged with responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects.
