Two hundred 2022 KCPE candidates, who benefitted from the Nyamira County scholarship programme worth Ksh 11 million shillings, have been flagged off by Governor Amos Nyaribo to join secondary school.
Speaking during the ceremony at Uhuru Gardens, the Governor said the selected beneficiaries, whose majority are total orphans, will get full scholarships throughout the entire secondary school period.
Nyaribo urged the beneficiaries to work hard to enable them pursue their dream courses in University.
He invited well-wishers and organizations to join his efforts to support education projects.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Education Kennedy Momanyi said the bursary committee selected 10 students in each of the 20 wards; whom they made sure were the most deserving cases.
He asked students not to transfer from the schools they are have been called to in order to facilitate easy posting of the bursary cheques to the schools.
County Director of Education Boniface Ouko reiterated the government’s effort to develop education in the county.
“Both the national and county governments have put aside resources to support education development and this should be appreciated by all of us,” he said.
He thanked the Governor for the gesture and promised that his office will provide possible assistance to the learners and their teachers in the pursuit of their goals.
