A grade five pupil at Kalimamundu Primary School in Mwingi North Constituency fainted as other learners appeared weak because of hunger.
Speaking over the phone Kyuso sub-county Director of Education Stephen Mulandi said he intervened by appealing to food support for the affected learners and the school in general.
“The learner who was affected to the point of fainting was in grade five. The class teacher called to inform me that majority of the pupils had become week from hunger to the point of one fainting,” added Mulandi.
He noted that teachers had already started soliciting money to feed the affected while his office intervened by appealing for food support to cushion the starving pupils where well-wishers offered their support.
The Director wrote a letter to principal Kyuso boys requesting food donation to starving pupils. The children were in dire need and needed food to retain them in school and for their health.
Mulandi indicated that the last rain season failed leaving residents with no harvest after their crops withered and that the situation could be worse.
Well-wishers responded to the plea by donating four bags of maize then handed them over to the school head teacher Caroline Mwangangi.
Three of the bags were donated by Kyuso boys secondary and one bag was purchased from the money raised in a whats App group formed by a Kyuso ward MCA aspirant Kennedy Muthui.
