Eighty-two youth from Teso North Constituency have graduated from the first cohort of the Teso North Digital Empowerment Programme, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with skills needed to compete in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The graduation ceremony, presided over by Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, was held at Chamasiri Technical and Vocational College (TVC), bringing together beneficiaries, trainers and local leaders.
The graduates were drawn from a cohort of 100 youth who enrolled in the programme, with 82 successfully completing training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT) components.
Speaking during the ceremony, Kaunya challenged the graduates to turn the skills acquired into practical opportunities, urging them to embrace technology, innovation and digital entrepreneurship.
The MP said empowering young people with relevant digital skills was critical in preparing them for emerging opportunities in employment and enterprise.
The programme was designed to bridge the digital skills gap among youth while exposing them to technologies shaping the modern workplace.
The graduates were commended for their commitment and resilience throughout the training and encouraged to apply their knowledge in solving challenges within their communities.
Graduates to be linked with opportunities
Organisers said they would continue engaging the graduates and linking them with emerging opportunities in employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the capacity of young people in Teso North to participate in the digital economy and take advantage of opportunities created by technological advancement.

The graduation marks the first milestone of the programme, with organisers expressing optimism that more youth will benefit from similar digital skills initiatives in future.
