At least 174 students from Amabuko Mixed Day Boarding Secondary School in Masaba South, Kisii County, have been admitted to different hospitals due to stomach pains.

Among them, 23 students received treatment at Keroka Sub County Hospital, 76 at Gucha Maternity Hospital and 55 at St. Catherine Ichuni Mission Hospital.

An additional 20 students in critical condition were transported to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital via county ambulances.

The exact cause of the issue is yet to be determined, but it is suspected to be a case of food poisoning. Specifically, only students who consumed sukuma wiki during last evening’s supper are affected while those who had cabbage are fine.

The affected students are experiencing diarrhea, stomach pains and vomiting.

The school Principal Rawlings Juma, has confirmed these developments.
