Varsity students head to polls to elect new student leaders

Rongo University conducted elections to choose leaders for the Rongo University Students Association (RUSA) today.

The Students Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Kesero Tunai, in a memo, pointed out that the exercise will run from 8:00 am up to 12:00 noon when the polling stations will be closed.

He warned against campaigns by the contestants and their agents citing  breach of integrity and threatened disqualification of the contestants.

All the students were required to carry with them their National/Students Identification Card or Admission letter and had to be registered for the 2022/2023 Semester two to be eligible to vote.

“All resident students are required to vote at Lower Main Campus (Nyamarambe) Hostel before proceeding to the respective school voting,” part of the statement read.

At the same time, there is a tight competition between Abraham Kipng’etich and Kangwana Nyakundi Duncan for the campus representative (Governor) post with both of them appearing to be favourites in the post.

Other contestants for various posts who are likely to win include; Nambeche Gloria, Rachael Auma and Kevin Ouru (Echate).
