Varsity student escapes death in grisly road accident that claimed seven lives

A second year Kisii University student has thanked God after he escaped death narrowly in a fatal road accident that took place at the outskirts of Kisii town.

Speaking to Education News at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was rushed for first aid by good samaritans after the horrifying the petrified male student who requested for anonymity promised not to attend partying occasion.

“I will go to church and serve God for the rest of my life,” he said.

The accident that involved a canter, happened at Choma Chima Lounge near Kisii -Migori Junction at around 4am as those who were celebrating the weekend left the hotel.

The driver of the track lost control and rammed into the pedestrians killing 7 people including the driver instantly.

Among the casualties was Catherine Omuluse, a police officer attached to Nyanchwa police station in Kisii Central Sub-county.

Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO Oimeke Mariita confirmed the deaths.

He said that three more victims were admitted in the hospital under critical condition and express hope of their recovery adding, “We remain optimistic that they will recover and reunite with their loved ones because they are in safe hands of our able doctors.”

Kisi County Police Commander said his security officers have started investigations to establish the real cause of the deaths but declined to give details on the findings.

“As for now we are fighting to save the lives of those admitted in hospital before commenting on anything,” he said.

The morning incident left many residents in the always busy Kisii town in ewe.

Business went into standsill in the whole of Kisii town and its outskirt estates of Mwembe, Jogoo, Darajambili and Nyamataro where only Saturday church goers cold be seen walking solemnly to their worshiping places that including Kisii Nyanchwa, Embassy, Kisii Central, New Life, Gekmnu and Botori SDA churches.
