The University of Kabianga has reassured students, staff, parents and the general public following an incident that occurred at Lecture theatre block four on April 13, 2026.
In an official press release from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the university confirmed that at approximately 1:00 p.m., a piece of mortar detached from a slab within the lecture theatre and fell onto a ramp during an ongoing class session.
The falling debris caused alarm among students who were attending the lecture.
According to the statement, the panic that followed led to a stampede as students scrambled to exit the building.
In the confusion, some students reportedly jumped from the upper floor in an attempt to escape, resulting in injuries.

The university expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and confirmed that injured students were promptly rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The management further conveyed its appreciation to Kericho county authorities and other stakeholders for their swift response and support during the emergency.

The institution also disclosed that engineers from the State Department for Public Works have been called in to assess the structural integrity of the affected building and provide guidance on necessary measures.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students and staff, wishing the injured a quick recovery as assessments and follow-up actions continue.
