Two high school students in Busia County aged 17 and 16, are in police custody following their arrest for possessing a large quantity of bhang.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the students, Form 4 and Form 3 students respectively, were apprehended at the Suo roadblock yesterday while traveling from Busia to Nairobi on a Guardian Angel bus with registration number KCW 073X.

“Two high school students, one aged 17 in Form 4 and the other aged 16 in Form 3 were apprehended with a large amount of bhang and placed in custody. The two were travelling on a Guardian Angel bus, registration number KCW 073X, destined for Nairobi from Busia when their illicit cargo was discovered,” stated the DCI.

Responding to a tip-off, a multi-agency team intercepted the bus and carried out a detailed search. They found five bales of bhang, totaling 23 kilograms, concealed in the students’ bags. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is Ksh690, 000.

“Acting on a tip-off, a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock intercepted the bus. A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of bhang, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Ksh690, 000,” DCI added.

The suspects are currently detained at Busia Police Station and will be processed before facing legal proceedings.
