Rev. Dr. Francis Shikanda, HSC, Siaya County Director of Education, addresses school managers during the opening of a capacity-building programme on teacher discipline management, induction, mentorship, and coaching at Bishop Okoth Mbaga Girls Senior School.

A two-day capacity-building programme on the Management of the Teacher Discipline Function and Teacher Induction, Mentorship and Coaching (TIMEC) for Boards of Management (BoM) Chairpersons and Senior School Principals has commenced at Bishop Okoth Mbaga Girls Senior School in Siaya County.

The training, being conducted under the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) Programme, has brought together BoM Chairpersons and Principals from 95 senior schools drawn from all sub-counties in Siaya County.

The programme seeks to strengthen the capacity of school managers in handling teacher discipline matters while enhancing their understanding of teacher induction, mentorship, and coaching frameworks aimed at improving professionalism and performance within learning institutions.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the County Director of Education, Rev. Dr. Francis Shikanda, HSC, and the TSC County Director, Dr. William Yator, OGW, who jointly participated in the launch of the training.

A nationwide initiative

The capacity-building programme forms part of a nationwide initiative being implemented by the TSC for school managers across the country’s 47 counties at a time when schools continue to navigate emerging educational, leadership, and management challenges.

Ugenya TSC Sub-County Director Bernard Orwasa (in white) joins other education officials during a teacher discipline management, induction, mentorship, and coaching training programm.

Facilitating the training are TSC Sub-County Directors Bernard Orwasa (Ugenya) and Jared Okinyi Ogile (Gem Wagai), alongside Michael Kombo, Curriculum Support Officer for Ambira Zone. The facilitators have undergone specialized training by the Commission to support the implementation of the programme.

The sessions are expected to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage teacher discipline issues, strengthen mentorship structures, and promote professional standards within schools.
