The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has accused the teachers’ employer of a plot to kill the union.
Sosion said TSC had come up with an elaborate scheme to cripple KNUT and render it ineffective in carrying out is mandate.
“The commission which unilaterally suspended midstream the implementation of the 2017-2021 CBA has adamantly refused to schedule negotiation for 2021-2023 CBA,” Sossion said in a speech read on his behalf by Assistant National Treasurer Ali Abdi during the Rongo branch elections.
On union membership, he said the commission had unilaterally and illegally introduced union membership validation through digital platform.
He called on the Cabinet Secretary for Labor and Social protection Simon Chelugui to intervene.
The Secretary General also took issue with delocalisation of teachers saying the employment and labor court had ruled that head teachers, principals or teachers performing roles of heads of institutions who are elected KNUT officials can only be transferred within the respective geographical areas they are elected as KNUT representative.
In the elections in Rongo and Homa Bay branches, a number of former officials were unopposed.
In Homa Bay branch, Dorcas Oguda is the new chairperson, Cornel Ojuok is the Executive Secretary and the Treasurer is Hilda Otieno.
In the Rongo branch, Felix Okongo is the chairman, Eunice Bosco is the Executive Secretary while Ben Misawo is the branch Treasurer.
